Securing Japan's Energy and Resources:  Recent Trends and their Significance for Australia

The tragic events of 2011 and their aftermath have led to a renewed focus in Japan on energy and the resources required for its production. The recent announcements around the Inpex project in the Northern Territory reflect this interest.

Our next AJS Business Series will address this topic. We are pleased to welcome two speakers, Mr.
Takashi "Taka" Tsuchiya, Managing Director JETRO Sydney;
and Paul Davis, Partner at Baker & McKenzie.

Tsuchiya-san will provide an overview of the Japanese economy and its current resource demand. Paul will outline some specific projects in the context of recent changes to Japan's energy mix, and and discuss the global market and how Australia's role is changing.

'Taka' Tsuchiya has been Managing Director of JETRO Sydney since April 2011. Established in 1960 as the Australian office of the Japan External Trade Organization, JETRO Sydney now focuses on promoting foreign direct investment into Japan and helping small to medium size Japanese firms maximize their global export potential; as well it assists Australian firms in the Japan market.

Paul Davis is a member of the management committee at the Baker & McKenzie Tokyo office and belongs to the Major Projects Practice Group. He has been a lawyer for over 30 years, 15 of which have been spent in Japan and 15 in Australia. Paul has been involved as legal advisor in many deals in the areas of oil and gas, natural resources, power, infrastructure and other major projects.

Sign up (online here) to hear an expert discussion of the issues around Japanese investment in this industry that is so important for Australia. Note that this event will be held at the Baker & McKenzie offices. See here for details in PDF and a mail booking form.
