One of the most significant events of the Society’s year is the presentation of awards to outstanding students of Japanese studies across the six universities in the greater Sydney region sponsored by AJS-NSW.
This year, again, we are honoured to have the awards presented by the Consul-General of Japan in Sydney, Mr. Masato Takaoka.
The Consul-General will also deliver the keynote speech of the evening, on the topic of Japan, Australia and the G7 Summit.
The 42nd G7 summit was held on May 26–27, 2016 at Ise-Shima in Mie Prefecture. World leaders discussed a range of issues and the Consul-General will outline some areas of interest for Australia.
Each of the students receiving the award will outline their interest in Japan, their reasons for pursuing Japanese studies and their plans for the future.
The awards ceremony will be followed by a networking reception. This annual event is a highlight of our year and a lively evening. We look forward to welcoming members and friends and especially our awardees and their lecturers to celebrate the ongoing strength of Japanese studies in Australia.
