Help celebrate our university awardees and hear from the Consul-General about the impact of the recent disaster on Australia-Japan relations!

AJS-NSW offers three awards to outstanding students of Japanese at the University of Sydney, UNSW and Macquarie University.

Our awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with a presentation by Dr. Kohara, Consul-General of Japan in Sydney, on "Japan and Japan-Australia relations after the East Japan Earthquake Disaster".

Dr. Kohara is a Patron of AJS-NSW (along with the Premier of NSW) and this is the first time for him to speak to us since his appointment.

The presentation and Dr. Kohara's speech will be followed by cocktails and networking.

We look forward to welcoming members and friends and especially our awardees and their lecturers.

Speaker details:

Dr. Masahiro Kohara has had a distinguished career in the Japanese foreign service. His position prior to his appointment in Sydney, was as Deputy Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His responsibilities there included policy planning and multilateral diplomacy for the region as a whole, and with China as a central focus, bilateral relations with south Asian and Pacific nations.
