Japanese Industry Expertise for an Australian High Speed Rail future

Join the Australia-Japan Society of NSW for an exciting night of industry and government collaboration discussing a flagship topic on Australia's transport future— an Australian high-speed rail network.

This event will spotlight the potential for collaborative efforts between Australian and Japanese industry in advancing high-speed rail in Australia.

Attendees will gain valuable perspectives on how international partnerships can shape a future high speed rail network, and will hear from leading experts on the economic, technological, and infrastructural aspects of high-speed rail.

Guest speakers include:
  • Tim Parker, CEO of the High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA), who will provide an update on the current status of HSR planning and development by HSRA, and outline the next steps in this nationally significant program.
  • Yoshikata Tanabe, representing Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central), who will share insights from Japan's renowned Shinkansen network and discuss potential collaborations to bring similar success to HSR in Australia.

Presentations and Q&A panel session with guest speakers to be followed by networking opportunity over catered food and beverages.

Speaker Bios

Tim Parker

Mr Parker is the CEO of the Federal Government established, High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA) and has considerable leadership and project experience in delivering complex infrastructure projects to drive the development of high-speed rail in Australia. Mr Parker has over 30 years of experience in developing, procuring and delivering significant infrastructure projects including as the Head of Project for Sydney Metro since 2018, as well as having complex infrastructure experience working in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

Mr Yoshikata Tanabe

Mr Tanabe is the General Manager of the Central Japan Railway Co., Sydney Office. With a career of over 20 years in the company, he has had wide experience spanning Shinkansen operations, scheduling, demand forecasting, policy, facilities investment and implementation through to the Maglev Chuo Shinkansen project plus a number of years based in the Washington DC office. He holds a Master of Science in Engineering degree from Keio University.
